Caring For Growing Smiles

At Aesthetic Dentistry of Wickford, we believe that small smiles are precious, which is why we provide attentive and high-quality preventive dental care to children and teens. Our team is fully prepared with the right technology and techniques to make sure that your children have everything they need to have happy and healthy grins as adults. We offer a variety of treatments to protect their mouths from common oral issues, such as dental sealants and fluoride treatments. We even offer sedation dentistry for children who are worried or scared of the dentist. That way, they can feel comfortable and relaxed throughout their appointment.

Your Child’s First Dental Appointment

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children visit their dentist in North Kingston by the time they turn one year old. Not only are routine checkups and cleanings a necessity for adults, but because children’s smiles are growing so quickly, it’s important to stay on top of their oral development to prevent problems from occurring in the future.

During your child’s first visit, we’ll conduct a visual examination of their mouth to make sure there’s nothing concerning. This appointment is also a great introduction to your child’s dental health and hygiene routine.  The earlier they get used to taking care of their pearly whites, the more likely it will be that they form good habits that they upkeep as adults. Our team also strives to establish a positive connection with your child so that they feel comfortable visiting our office and asking us questions.

Children’s Dental Services

At Aesthetic Dentistry of Wickford, we offer a variety of services made to optimize children’s oral health as they’re learning how to properly care for their smiles. These include:

  • Dental Sealants: If your child hasn’t quite learned how to brush and floss on their own, dental sealants can help keep sugar from settling on their teeth and forming cavities.
  • Nightguards for Bruxism: It’s not uncommon for children to grind and clench their teeth in their sleep. However, this oral condition can severely impact the health of their teeth and gums. We create customized nightguards to shield their pearly whites and keep them healthy.
  • Fluoride Treatments: As your child’s teeth are growing, they could benefit from fluoride treatments to help strengthen their enamel and protect their teeth.

Caring For Small Smiles At Home

Your child’s first line of defense against oral health problems is their dental hygiene routine at home. Our goal is to equip them with the knowledge they need to prevent problems from ever developing, in addition to providing them with high-quality treatments. Here are some tips on how your child can maintain healthy teeth and gums at home:

  • For infants, gently clean their gums two to three times each day using a soft teeth brush or clean, damp cloth.
  • When your child’s first tooth grows in, you can use a rice grain-sized amount of toothpaste to clean their mouth. After the age of three, a larger pea-sized amount is appropriate.
  • Let your child choose fun dental hygiene products from the store to help engage them in their nightly and morning routine of brushing and flossing.
  • Set a good example by brushing and flossing your teeth with your children.

If you’d like to provide your child with fantastic dental care and preventive treatments that will ward off cavities and oral health problems, contact our office today to schedule their checkup and cleaning!
